Christmas Stitches 2010 - Embroidery Class

Let's all get together in the virtual classroom to learn some embroidery stitches! The class will be a combination of weekly lessons and downloadable project and pattern PDFs. The projects will include ornaments, accessories and home décor, exclusively available in the materials for the class.

Details of the class
This 4-week class begins October 25 and runs through November 21. Once you have signed up for the class, you'll receive the link to the site for the class. Each Monday I will show you new embroidery stitches. On Thursdays I will post a project and patterns that use these stitches. Feel free to take the class at a pace that suits you! All the content of the class will be available to you after the class ends, all the way through December 31, 2010.

The class will include an introduction to embroidery tools and techniques, so if you're new to embroidery you will be stitching with confidence in no time. And I'm happy to help with any questions you may have.

How to participate
Sign up here starting October 18th. Once you have signed up for the class you'll receive the instructions for the classroom and a materials list. No materials will be provided. You'll need access to the internet, so a computer will also be quite handy. I hope you will share what you make so access to a camera would be great too. Some of the projects are sewn on a sewing machine, but it's not strictly necessary.
The projects are fairly straightforward, so no need to worry if you are a beginner sewer!

Projects and patterns in the class
Using 11 colourful embroidery patterns ranging from simple to more complex designs, you'll receive patterns and instructions for making 6 different types of project. All of them inspired by my Scandinavian eritage. They will include:
* Ornaments for your Christmas tree
* Home décor
* Accessories for you
I'll also provide suggestions for alternative uses for some of the patterns and projects.
Some of the stitches taught in the class are: star stitch, French knot, petal stitch and herringbone stitch.
Class interaction
I hope there will be lots of sharing of projects in the class. There will be two places for sharing what you make: the classroom site, where you'll find all the lessons and PDFs for patterns and projects; and a Flickr group where you can share your project photos each week. You can ask questions about the lessons and patterns etc in both places. I'll be checking in every day to answer any questions and check out your creations. The more you take part during the class the more you'll get out of it. I will also keep an eye on the class site and will be happy to help even after the class is finished.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you provide the email address you'd like me to use for any communications with you during the class. You can do this by writing it in the 'message' area during the Paypal transaction. I'll use your Paypal email if you do not tell me otherwise.
